Two unique characteristics that exceptional leaders embody are approachability and collaboration. Exceptional leaders are notably distinguished by how they genuinely share their knowledge, creating compelling and learning experiences for others. Exceptional leaders exhibit and embrace decisions, success, courage, vision, charisma, adaptability, decisiveness, inspiration, influence, excellence, giving, generosity, accountability, integrity, winning, making a difference, passion, cooperation, support, guidance, belief, execution and compassion. Impressively, the list goes on and on.
It is my privilege and honor to present you with leadership thoughts and quotes from six exceptional leaders from Virginia, California, Utah and Boston.
“Every great leader makes the same decision. Success at the highest level comes down to one question: Can you decide that your happiness can come from someone else’s success?” If you can, you take the most important step towards becoming a great leader. No one has qualities like courage, vision, charisma, adaptability, and decisiveness in equal measure. But every great leader makes that one decision — and so can you.

“Leadership is walking in solitude and realizing that during the toughest and loneliest moments, you inspired and influenced others to join you in the journey.”
Oscar Garcia, President & CEO of The Chamber of Commerce of Mountain View
True leaders embody a spirit of excellence. Never content to give just the bare minimum, they are always looking for opportunities to be better, serve better and give generously of their time and talent. A true leader is never intimidated by the excellence of others, but instead is eager to partner with it and draw it out of those who don’t yet recognize it in themselves. Accountability and integrity are interwoven into the spirit of excellence and a true leader embraces these characteristics and inspires others to do the same. If called to do so, a true leader would willingly sacrifice position, status and money if it ultimately meant a better outcome for the majority of those involved.

“The laughter of little children is one of my favorite joys. It awakens my desire to make a difference. Lead from such a cause and everyone wins.”
Jeff Sherman, CEO of ShermanSpeaks™
Being a leader is identifying a problem you are passionate about that is bigger than yourself – and then committing yourself to it. A good leader knows it will take many people working together to solve the problem. You know they will need support and guidance. You know they will need someone to empower them and make them feel capable of doing things far beyond what they thought they could. You know they will need to feel like someone believes in them 100%. A true leader knows they are the person who must step up and give others what they need to succeed.

A great leader is someone who combines the ability to manage current execution while planning for what needs to come next with the skill of creating a shared sense of purpose and goal for their team. An effective leader leads by example and shows deep compassion to everyone around them.
